Last week, I attended our monthly meeting of the Huntington Beach Art League. We had a wonderfully talented watercolorist, Gerald Brommer who presented an incredible demonstration of a scene from his trip to the Louisiana Bayous. He started with only an onsight sketch and went right to work on his paper without any drawing. The process was mesmerizing and the results were more than fabulous. Even though he's a watercolorist, not my medium, I always seem to pick up a few tips. Even if it's just watching him tackle the project head on and finding out how brave one can be if they're confident in their technique approaches.

But the bonus for the evening was that the artists who attended displayed their artwork ahead of the meeting and the demonstrator selects what he deems to be first, second and third place awards  for each of the painting and drawing categories. So it's a juried exhibition, technically. Well, folks, I snagged a second place award for my acrylic painting above entitled, "Colorful Friends". I was so thrilled to be validated by an established artists. So I guess I will continue painting.

Stop into Rutabegorz Restaurant at 158 West Main Street in Tustin to see 35 of my paintings on display. I have had one sale already and look forward to having more popping off those walls in the next 5 months through the end of July. I had my trepidations about leaving them there that long, however, better where more people can see them, than remaining in my studio undiscovered.
I will also have one submission in the show, "Art That's Small at City Hall" in Laguna Beach starting with the reception on April 4 through the end of the show on April 26.
